Mobile Web Sites for Small Business

Having a Mobile Friendly Website is No Longer Optional. It’s a MUST!

The original iPhone was released on June 29th, 2007. Although the iPhone was far from being the first mobile device, it did change the mobile landscape forever. Prior to the iPhone, using the Internet away from a desktop or laptop was limited to watered-down webpages that rendered as text. But because the iPhone included a full online browsing experience through Safari, it kicked off an explosion in the mobile web.

Every day, more and more people browse the internet via their smartphones or tablets instead of their desktop computers. According to a November 2016 study, 51.3 percent of all web usage takes place on a mobile device, and more than half of all local searches are performed while consumers are on the go using a mobile device.  Despite this, only nine percent of small businesses have mobile responsive websites.

1. Improved User Experience

Mobile-friendly websites are designed to cater to the user experience. This means that a website that is optimized for mobile will allow the user to navigate through the website easily. Desktop versions of websites are difficult to view and navigate on a mobile device. If users see that your website is only optimized for desktop, it is likely they will go to a competitor who can provide a better and easier user experience.

A good user experience will make your user a happy customer, and a happy customer is more likely to purchase a product, revisit your website, and recommend you to friends and family.

2. Google Favors Mobile-Friendly Websites

It’s no secret that Google prefers mobile-friendly websites. They’ve said it themselves. Optimizing your website for mobile will increase your Google ranking. This means that a mobile-friendly website will have increased traffic because it will be ranked higher in Google searches.

3. Increased Credibility

A mobile-friendly website will make your brand look professional and relevant. Not only will it improve your brand identity, but it will benefit your reputation and help you differentiate your brand from your competition.

If a user comes across a website that is not optimized for mobile, it will give the website the reputation of having an outdated brand. Optimizing your website is an extremely easy way to gain an edge over your competitors who may not be mobile-optimized.

4. Mobile is Everywhere

A mobile-friendly website can be taken everywhere. Whether users are commuting to work or browsing during their lunch breaks, they have the opportunity to visit your website at all times.

A website that is not optimized for mobile is missing out on endless opportunities to reach customers.

5. Increased Conversion Rates

It’s no lie when people say that mobile users act differently. A mobile website can spur action — whether it be to sign up, buy, or purchase a product. If a user comes across your website and it is not optimized for their mobile device, you are losing out on an opportunity for them to make a purchase or sign up.

Internet access is now 51% mobile as opposed to 42% desktop. This means that you are potentially missing out on half the users and potential revenue if you are not mobile-optimized. If you have a small or local business, potential customers are more likely to visit you in store after they have visited your website, which is another reason why your website should be optimized for mobile.

Don’t Miss out

Today, almost 1.2 billion people are accessing the internet from their mobile devices. Don’t miss out on the majority of the population that is using mobile. If your website is not mobile-friendly, not only will users refer to your competitors, but it will also damage your reputation and make you look like an outdated brand.

Making your website mobile-friendly will improve the user experience — leading to possible sales, a better reputation, and increased traffic.
